Citizens of our community have been asking, "What is a school-based health center? We hear we have one in Delta County, but we don't really understand what it is." A school-based health center is a health care facility located within or on school grounds. The goal of the health center is to improve the health and education outcomes of students. School-based health centers primarily serve students who have limited access to care, they serve those who may not have a medical home, and they also provide care when children are unable see their regular provider.

Delta's school-based health center is A Kidz Clinic, located at 360 E. 8th Street. Its doors opened in 2014 in partnership with Delta County Schools to provide whole child healthcare and make it possible for every child to have affordable, accessible, and quality care. As access to healthcare continues to be a barrier for far too many families, A Kidz Clinic exists to close the gap and provide care for children ages 0-21.

The goal of A Kidz Clinic is to provide children with the tools they need to thrive. The team recognizes the importance of addressing the needs of the whole child -- including an assessment of their physical health, mental health and oral health. The team at A Kidz Clinic screens all children 11 and older for depression and anxiety. The team also ensures children are receiving their annual physical exams and immunizations, as well semi-annual dental screenings/cleanings.

The staff of A Kidz Clinic provide team-based, integrated care. What is integrated care? While a child may visit the clinic for their annual well-child check or for a dental cleaning, they may meet the entire team including the medical provider, the therapist, and the dental hygienist. The mission of A Kidz Clinic is to "provide comprehensive, quality integrated healthcare services to children ages 0-21 in Delta County so they have the tools needed to be healthy and in school learning.

A Kidz Clinic serves over 700 children per year, providing primary medical care (including well-child exams and immunizations), behavioral and mental health care, and preventative dental care. At A Kidz Clinic, whole child healthcare for every child is possible. To learn more, call 874-2753 or visit kidzclinic.delta
