Village Building Convergence will celebrate five years in the North Fork area May 18-20 with two community projects: updating and refreshing of the street mural on Fourth Street at Paonia Elementary School, and repairing and completion of the Art Wall at Elsewhere Studios on Third Street.

As with most public art, maintenance and repair is necessary to ensure project longevity. The public is invited to support and participate in these projects.

Started in 2000, VBC is a hands-on community action movement made of teachers, parents, students, artists, civic leaders, builders and others from across the country coming together with a common vision of revitalizing community public spaces for all to enjoy.

Projects tell stories of community values and demonstrate the power of people working together. While sharing beauty is at the heart of its projects, they also address public concerns like increasing safety in walking corridors, slowing of traffic in areas where children play, encouraging fruitful interactions between generations, and improving neighbor relations.

Work will take place between May 18-20. Painting of the street mural runs from 12:30-3 p.m. Friday, May 18, followed at 6 p.m. by a block party and potluck at Elsewhere Studios. Work on the Art Wall happens from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, with lunch break at 1 p.m.

The North Fork Valley Creative Coalition is sponsoring the events. Donations of art and construction materials, goods and services, food and cash are graciously accepted. An online fundraiser can be found at gogetfund

ing.com. Donations to the NFVCC are tax-deductible. For information, contact Lauren at 303-241-7759 or laurenziccardi@gmail.com, or Susie at 970-275-3453 or susiekaldis@gmail.com.
