The unemployment rate in Delta County dropped slightly from May to June, but more significantly from a year ago. According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, unemployment in Delta County is estimated at 6 percent for June 2015, compared to 6.7 percent for June 2014. The labor force increased slightly, from 14,161 to 14,265.
Across the state, the unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point in June to 4.4 percent. Neighboring counties report 5.8 percent (Montrose) and 6.6 percent unemployment (Mesa).
The clock is ticking. The Delta Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) has 120 days to reach agreement with the taxing entities it's asking to help fund a gateway project near the intersection of Highways 50 and 92. Half that time has elapsed, and there is no Plan B, city manager David Torgler emphasized during a meeting with taxing entities Monday.
