Two school board seats will be filled in the November election, and while the election is several months away, the window for circulating nominating petitions is upon us.
Candidates can pick up a "notice of intent to run" form from the county clerk's office that must be signed by 50 registered electors and returned to the county clerk by Aug. 28. Candidates must be residents of Director Districts II or III, but the signators can reside anywhere in the county. Director District II is located in the Delta area. Incumbent Kathy Svenson said she does not intend to seek a second term in office.
Director District III is located in the Cedaredge/Orchard City area. Incumbent Pete Blair is completing his first term in office and has indicated he plans to run for re-election.
The clock is ticking. The Delta Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) has 120 days to reach agreement with the taxing entities it's asking to help fund a gateway project near the intersection of Highways 50 and 92. Half that time has elapsed, and there is no Plan B, city manager David Torgler emphasized during a meeting with taxing entities Monday.
