An 11-year-old Delta male sustained serious injuries when he ran into the side of a van while attempting to cross Confluence Drive. The accident occurred at about 1 p.m. Aug. 1.
Investigation revealed two juveniles were running across Confluence Drive at West 5th Street going from west to east. According to the Delta Police Department, there is no marked pedestrian crossing at this intersection. One juvenile stopped at the center median; the other did not. The 11-year-old ran into the side of a van travelling north on Confluence Drive. The driver's door was dented and the side mirror torn from the van. The driver of the van did not report any injuries. The child was transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Children's Hospital in Denver for specialized pediatric care. No charges were filed in the case.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
