Zombie run in Crawford on Oct. 28

The Montessori School at Crawford will be hosting a 5k Zombie Run on Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Experts talk about senior scams, fraud

"Senior Scams and Fraud" will be the focus of a talk hosted by A Little Help and First Colorado National Bank. The bank's Adam Hoffman and Dave Knutson from A Little Help will co-facilitate the discussion.

Traveling Gourds poetry tour to make Paonia stop

"Giving poets exposure to audiences in far-flung Colorado communities, and giving local audiences examples of performance poetry in action, has been the motivating impulse behind the Telluride Institute's Traveling Gourds Tour," explained Talking Gourds co-director, Art Goodtimes.

Luis Lopez of Grand Junction and Val Szarek of Louisville, will share the spotlight as featured guest poets in Telluride, Norwood, Paonia and Fruita, Oct. 24-27.

Gears & Beers is Oct. 21

The eighth annual Gears & Beers benefit for the North Fork Trail Advocacy Group happens Saturday, Oct. 21, in Paonia. Group rides include a road ride at 11 a.m., and a mountain bike ride at noon.

Learn about Haven House at Ridgway gathering

A wine and cheese party is being held to acquaint everyone with Haven House, a transitional housing program for homeless families with children.

The party will be held Sunday, Oct. 22, 3 to 6 p.m., at the home of Sue and Dave Wiens at 56 Fisher Creek Drive, Ridgway.

Community dance set for Oct. 21

Route 66 will provide music for the community evening dance Saturday, Oct. 21, at Bill Heddles Recreation Center. The dance takes place from 7 to 10 p.m.

Delta UMC hosts Halloween events

The Delta United Methodist Church, 477 Meeker Street in Delta, will sponsor a trick-or-treat for UNICEF Halloween party and haunted house in the church basement Sunday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. This fun party, set up like a carnival, will feature a pumpkin walk, balloon darts, fishing booth, fortune telling and more.

Uranium workers invited to workshop

Nuclear Care Partners is hosting a free resource workshop to help former AEC Compound and uranium workers access the federal benefits they've earned to compensate for their exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals during their work on behalf of the United States' defense.

Fort hosts Saturday Trade Day, Blessing of the Animals

Square dances set for Oct. 7, 21

The Delta Hubwheelers Square Dance Club will host dances from 7-9 p.m., on Saturday nights, Oct. 7 and 21, in the aerobics room of the Bill Heddles Recreation Center, 531 N. Palmer Street, Delta. Dancing will be directed by regular club caller Naaman Moorehouse from Grand Junction.

Libraries highlight local authors

Last fall, Delta County Libraries' staff began compiling a list of local authors to display in each library. There are over 50 names on that list and it keeps growing.

Special movie planned

"Luther," starring Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther, will be shown at the Egyptian Theatre in conjunction with the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

The showing will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, and is sponsored by Redeemer Lutheran Church, LCMS, Delta.

The City of Delta announces a meet and greet event to introduce the candidates for public works/utilities director. Once the candidates accept the invitation to continue to the next step of the interview process, they will be announced.

Ambulance hosts informational sessions

Delta County Ambulance District (DCAD) is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss the mill levy question on the November ballot. DCAD is seeking a mill levy increase of 3.50 mills, for a total of 5.750 mills.
