Ronald Eugene Smalldridge died June 23, 2018, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 80.
He was born June 29, 1937, to Merlyn and Sidney (McKim) Smalldridge in Nevada, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Mission, Texas, in 1955.
On March 12, 1958, he married Barbara Ann Grove in Mission, Texas. Mr. Smalldridge read meters for a gas company while in Texas. In 1964, the family moved to Monte Vista, where he managed the Monte Vista Potato Growers for many years. He later retired from ITC in Monte Vista.
The Smalldridges moved to Eckert in 2009 to be closer to family. Mr. Smalldridge enjoyed spending time with family, shooting, fishing, metal detecting, camping, hunting, coin collecting, gold panning and prospecting, and bike riding. He also enjoyed genealogy and was the family historian.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Saint Marie and Dixie Hodges; five daughters, Suzanne (Kent) Telinde, Gwen (Ki) Nelson, Brenda Bookout, Ann Marie (Hampton) Lester and Sarah Dick; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on Feb. 21, 2018; and a sister, Pat Pearce.
A celebration of life was held July 1 at Homelake in Monte Vista.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
