Lloyd Raymond "Ray" Short died Aug. 24, 2017, at his home in Delta. He was 95.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the First Baptist Church in Cedaredge.
Lloyd Raymond Short was born March 2, 1922, to Lloyd and Jean (Fall) Short in Gilman. He spent his childhood and attended school in the North Fork area. He enrolled in the Redvale Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC Camp) when he was 17 to help provide for his family. Upon discharge from the CCC, he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
On Dec. 18, 1948, he married Cepha Owens. They lived in Telluride most of their married life. They were married 35 years before her death.
Mr. Short enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding, helping family and friends, jeeping and visiting with the customers and employees of Delta Walmart.
He is survived by his brother, Donald Short; numerous nieces and nephews; and Christene Ingram.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cepha; brothers, Earl, Jack, Bob and Wayne; and sisters, Margie, Clarabelle, Rita and Dorothy.

Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
