Montrose resident Margie Nutter died suddenly Aug. 29, 2017, at her home. She was 65.
Margie Jean Jones was born in Durango Aug. 4, 1952, to Lester and Norma (Olbert) Jones. She spent her childhood in Durango, Westcliffe and Buena Vista before her family settled in Delta. Mrs. Nutter graduated from Delta High School and attended Fort Lewis College on a merit scholarship; she majored in accounting and graduated with honors and at the top of her class as a CPA.
Mrs. Nutter worked for Chadwick, Steinkirchner, Davis & White Accounting Firm in Grand Junction until she married Jack Nutter on June 4, 1977, in Eckert.
The Nutters moved to Montrose and worked on their farm while they raised their family. Mrs. Nutter was the chief financial officer at Montrose Memorial Hospital for several years and continued to work as a CPA until her retirement.
Mrs. Nutter participated in her daughters' school and sports activities and was a devoted Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, holiday decorating, especially Christmas village houses, collecting bears and spending time outdoors and with family at the family cabin.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jack Nutter; daughters, Melanie (Rene) Medina of Grand Junction, Danielle Recchia and fiancé Michael Tong of Montrose and Suzanne (Mitch Joosten) Nutter of Denver; grandchildren, Mathew, Keoki, Katrina and Ryker; siblings, Ralph (Elaine) Jones of Grand Junction, Ron (Denise) Jones of Clifton, and Jenelle (Danny) Meng of Raytown, Mo.; and extended family.
A memorial service was held Sept. 2.
Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors handled the arrangements.
