Lola Mae Bangert died Sept. 1, 2017, at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Interment will follow at Delta City Cemetery.
Lola Mae Bangert was born in Hughes Dec. 6, 1920, to Francis and Dolly (O'Neal) Myers. Her family traveled to Delta from the Eastern Slope in a covered wagon when she was 4 years old.
She graduated from the eighth grade in 1934 and began working. While employed by the McClurgs, she met their hired hand, Dave Bangert. They were married June 2, 1937, in Delta.
Mr. Bangert died in 1979, after 42 years of marriage, and Mrs. Bangert remained on the family farm for 17 years. She made and gave away quilts, stuffed toys, crocheted potholders, fresh garden vegetables, kosher dill pickles and bouquets of flowers. She helped care for elderly family members and neighbors.
She is survived by two sons, Cecil of Delta and Buckley of Cortez; two daughters, Peggy (Morris) McCool of Kent, Wash., and Debra (Henry) Bonzek of Palisade; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Bangert of Reno, Nev.; a brother, Donald Myers; a sister, Iona Kearns, both of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and grandchildren, Audrey (Zac Beavers) Bangert of Delta, Jim McCool of Tucson, Ariz., Andy (Ann) and Jon (Jeanne), both of Seattle, Monica McCool (Alan's wife) of Denver, Ben Roberts and Elizabeth (Aaron Muscle) of Raleigh, N.C., David (Tina) Bangert of Reno, Nev., Robert Bangert of Salida, Richard (Christine) Bangert and Brenda (George) Cortez of Reno and Joan (Steve) Terry of Elko, Nev.; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry; daughter, Karen Roberts; Lawrence, Dave's son from a previous marriage whom she always claimed; two grandsons, Alex Bangert and Alan McCool; and a daughter-in-law, Molly Bangert.
In 2012, Mrs. Bangert moved to her daughter's home in Palisade. After she fell and broke her hip in April 2014, she moved to Larchwood Inns in Grand Junction.
