On Saturday Aug. 19, the North Fork Valley Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation held its seventh annual fundraising banquet at Heritage Hall at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss. The banquet sold out with funds raised from these events used to support wildlife conservation.

It is the mission of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to protect and enhance wildlife habitat, provide hunter education, and to secure hunter access thru public and private agreements. Since its beginning RMEF has helped to conserve over 7 million acres of habitat.

The North Fork Chapter hosted more than 165 attendees from near and far including those who attended from Gunnison, Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs. The evening activities started with a prime rib dinner catered by Zack's Bar-B-Q of Hotchkiss followed with the silent auction, general raffle and finishing with the live auction and raffle awards. Many banquet attendees went home with high quality firearms and hunting and outdoor equipment from the banquet generously donated or underwritten by local individuals and businesses.

The North Fork Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation would like to thank all the support received from local business, organizers, and conservation minded individuals. The chapter appreciates everyone who gives back to their community in such a significant way.

These events help to fund permanent protection of crucial elk winter and summer ranges, migration corridors, calving grounds and other vital areas and to secure and improve hunter access throughout elk country.
