Cedaredge Ladies' Golf Club will host its annual Sizzler tournament Sept. 23. Teams of two play the 18-hole best ball tournament, with handicapped flights paying multiple places for net and gross scores. The entry fee is $65 per person and includes 18 holes, cart, continental breakfast and lunch.

Last year the tournament raised $1,000 for the Surface Creek Animal Shelter. This year, the tournament proceeds will be used to bring the "First Tee" national school program to Cedaredge Elementary School.

First Tee is a national "youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people" (thefirsttee.org). This golf program hopes to "educate and inspire youth academically, socially and physically through the game of golf" (thefirstteeofeaglecounty.com).

The ladies' club will raise the initial investment of $3,000, which will provide equipment and curriculum for the school to use indefinitely. It's the intent for school staff to incorporate the curriculum into the physical education program.

Members of the ladies' club believe the values of the First Tee program align with the Bruin PRIDE traits of perseverance, respect, integrity, duty and excellence.

The ladies' club has received a $500 grant from the national First Tee organization to kick off fundraising efforts.

During the next few months, members will be soliciting donations from businesses throughout Delta County. These donations will be combined with funds from the Sizzler golf tournament to implement the First Tee program. Funds raised above the $3,000 needed to start the program will be used for golf clinics at the Cedaredge Golf Club.

Anyone wishing to support the Cedaredge Ladies' Golf Club with a donation for the First Tee program at CES can contact Barb Stoermer at Stoermerbco@gmail.com or 970-201-0519.
