As volunteers of the month for June, the Surface Creek Animals Shelter Board Members are being named volunteers of the month.

The Surface Creek Animal Shelter in Cedaredge opened the Shelter Shoppe, 290 North Grand Mesa Drive, in March of 2010. The members of the Board of the Friends of Cedaredge Animal Control (FCAC, also known as The Surface Creek Animal Shelter) were many of those folks who organized this project.

Roberta Marean, Arlene Mellema and Marilee Claxton are not only great volunteers at the Shoppe, but they have been putting in many extra hours to get ready for the garage sale on May 26 and 27.

ALH is a Denver-based nonprofit that connects neighbors and helps seniors thrive. Held each spring and fall, Service Saturdays provide an opportunity for members to receive assistance with various chores in and around the house.

Helping to fund the Surface Creek Animal Shelter in Cedaredge, Colorado, the Shelter Shoppe, 290 N. Grand Mesa Drive, has been so busy this month that three volunteers have arisen as volunteers of the month.

Alvena Richard, a 10-year resident of Cedaredge, has volunteered at the Shelter Shoppe almost since its beginning citing her love of animals as the reason she continues her tenure at the Shoppe.

Shields, who has been a volunteer at the meal site helping with table service and also in the kitchen, has decided at age 91 to retire from her volunteer service there.
