Frieda Wallison, chair of the Colorado Third Congressional District Republican Central Committee, has announced the appointment of Joyce Rankin, Republican of Garfield County, to fill the CD3 seat on the Colorado Board of Education. The seat was recently vacated by the resignation of Marcia Neal.
A 13-member vacancy committee of the CD3 Republican Central Committee met in Gunnison Saturday, Aug. 8, to make the appointment.
Rankin will be sworn in at a ceremony Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Colorado Department of Education in Denver. The ceremony will be held before the state board of education meeting.
Joyce Rankin has an extensive background in educational matters, having been both a teacher and principal in public schools. She currently serves as a legislative aide in the State Legislature and follows educational issues. Rankin is a graduate of Michigan State University and holds a master's degree in education from California State University at San Jose.
Rankin has indicated her intention to run in the 2016 general election to retain her seat on the state board.
