Fifty years ago Hotchkiss High School graduated 42 students from the class of 1965. Last weekend's 50th class reunion was attended by 24 classmates who ranged in distance from Milan, N.M., and Coweta, Okla., to Hotchkiss. The majority of those who attended were from within a seventy-mile radius.
The last get-together celebrated by the class was 10 years ago.
Fifteen members of the Class of '65 enjoyed riding on a float in Saturday's Delta County Fair Parade. There were 24 classmates attending a dinner held at Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 Saturday evening. Zack's Bar-B-Q catered the dinner.
Attending the reunion celebrations were Becky Addams Lecy (Erie), Pete Eastman (Hotchkiss), Dennis Marty (Hotchkiss), Wayne Pfeiffer (Montrose), Bill Allen (Crawford), Marvin Carr (Hotchkiss), Sharon Hawkins MacKendrick (Milan, N.M.), Bob Jordan (Hotchkiss), Marlin Littlefield (Crawford), Mary Marty Stratton (Coweta, Okla.), Mike Price (Eckert), Wayne and Margie (Hollembeak) Crick (Delta), Glenda Reed Bass, (Hotchkiss), Charlene Schroeder Dorsey (Paonia), Janice Stone McCabe (Hotchkiss), Sharon Taylor Meier (Parker), Virginia Pitt Peterson (Crawford), Ralph Tafoya (Montrose), Judy Wood Church (Grand Junction), Ward Shipley (Grand Junction), Judy White Picard (Austin), John Taylor (Delta) and Jeanne Shiles Irwin (Hotchkiss).
Tentative plans for the next reunion, in five years, have been initiated.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
