Lifetime North Fork resident Frederick L. Venard died Aug. 23, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Grand Junction. He was 83.
A public visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with interment following at Mesa View Cemetery. James Gall will officiate.
Mr. Venard was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Fort Morgan to James and Sylvia (Connell) Venard. He grew up in the North Fork and graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1951. He attended Western State University.
On Dec. 22, 1991, he married Joy Miller in Paonia.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Paonia Church of Christ. He coached a Golden Gloves boxing team at Western State University and was a 4-H leader in Hotchkiss. He was also a Mason and American Legion member.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and competitive ballroom dancing and archery.
Mr. Venard is survived by his wife of almost 26 years, Joy Venard of Paonia; four daughters, Pam (Troy) Atwood of Crawford, Kim (Doug) Griffis of Paonia, Vicki (Jennifer Tafoya) Venard of Grand Junction, Chana (John) Clawson of Paonia; one stepson, James (Mel) Speer of Cedaredge; one stepdaughter, Susan (Ron Hanks) Speer of Hotchkiss; nine grand children; three great-grandchildren; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Linman; parents; and stepfather, Jess Reynolds.

Trustees for the Town of Crawford spent a good majority of their meeting last week hearing and discussing issues brought up by concerned citizens.
