Delta Mayor Ed Sisson reports that contract negotiations with city manager candidate Mark Collins are nearly complete. He expected to have signed documents in his hands as early as Tuesday afternoon. The next step will be formal approval by the Delta City Council.
Collins was one of two finalists brought to Delta for interviews with city council and staff members Monday, July 6. He is currently the associate vice president for administrative operations at University of Wyoming, and previously served as city manager in Gunnison, Grand Lake and Lander, Wyo. He has lived in Laramie for 10 years, two as city manager and eight with the university, and said he is looking forward to moving back to the Western Slope of Colorado. He has also missed working in city government.
The clock is ticking. The Delta Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) has 120 days to reach agreement with the taxing entities it's asking to help fund a gateway project near the intersection of Highways 50 and 92. Half that time has elapsed, and there is no Plan B, city manager David Torgler emphasized during a meeting with taxing entities Monday.
