At the request of Matt Horn, the owner of Delta's newest liquor store, the Delta City Council is considering an ordinance that would allow liquor tastings in retail establishments.
According to state statute, tastings are limited to five hours a day, no more than 104 days a year, and must be from store inventory. Sundays are excluded.
The Delta City Council had no objection to tastings in any of the city's liquor stores, and spent more time discussing permitting fees. Nelson promised to do more research and get back to council with a draft ordinance and proposed fee structure.
The clock is ticking. The Delta Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) has 120 days to reach agreement with the taxing entities it's asking to help fund a gateway project near the intersection of Highways 50 and 92. Half that time has elapsed, and there is no Plan B, city manager David Torgler emphasized during a meeting with taxing entities Monday.
