The Delta City Council is weighing a request from the Delta Barracuda swim team for a donation of $5,000 to help with the purchase of new timing equipment and a scoreboard.
Darnell Place-Wise made the request on behalf of the swim team. She said the team has raised about $5,600 toward the estimated cost of $11,000. The equipment would be installed at Bill Heddles Recreation Center and would be used for Barracuda and high school swim meets. Proper equipment would also enable the recreation center to host regional and state events. Place-Wise said the Barracudas would like to host the 2019 state swim meet, which would bring over 300 families to the city for a three-day period.
The matter was discussed during a work session May 15, so no formal action could be taken. The request will be placed on the June 5 council agenda.
