At their March 5 meeting Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes made two appointments to the county planning commission. Steve Shea was reappointed for a three-year term.
At the well-attended annual meeting of the Delta Conservation District (DCD), Chann Fogg of Cedaredge was honored as the Farmer of the Year and Dan Sullivan of Crawford was named Rancher of the Year. Both received a framed certificate and gift card to Ace Hardware.
In a dual between two of the top three teams in class 2A state rankings, Cedaredge claimed all but one match and gave up six points to a forfeit to defeat Hotchkiss last Friday, 65-12.
The dual opened at 126, with No. 2-ranked sophomore Sean Dale pinning Bulldog freshman JD Miller in 1 minute, 54 seconds.
Hotchkiss High School's basketball teams enjoyed a successful weekend of hoops with victories over league foes Caprock Academy and Plateau Valley. The Bulldogs defeated Caprock in girls action by a score of 72-7 while the boys scored 77 points to just 26 counters for the Eagles on Friday night.
A new year brought about changes which were pleasing for some and not so for others in Delta High School's basketball camp. The girls' program suffered its first loss of the season last year in the First Colorado National Bank tournament when Cedaredge's Bruins won a closely played title game.
"Fly Fishing Frenzy," one of four Bulldog Learning Centers offered at Hotchkiss K-8, was so popular, it's being expanded from an after-school program to a club. The learning center was offered by Leslie Kaminski, a sixth grade math and science teacher.
