Tuesday, May 3, is Election Day for special districts of all types, but in Delta County only the hospital has more candidates than seats to be filled on its board of directors. Elections for the North Fork Pool, Park and Recreation District, the county's five fire districts and its two mosquito control districts have been cancelled.
A jump of 18-1 in long jump does wonders for an athlete's mindset. Cedaredge senior Kenzie Henderson was all smiles on Saturday after recording the personal best jump at the Frank Woodburn Invitational. Henderson, and her Bruins teammates, finished last weekend's track meet with 79 points and placed third in the team race.
For more years than it can count, the staff at Paonia Elementary School (PES) has given dog tags (renamed Eagle tags) to students for advanced achievement and high growth on the state assessments. Last year was the first year for the new state tests in English language arts (ELA) and math, so this year they did not have the multi-year data required to recognize growth.
A Vision Charter Academy Showcase at Bill Heddles Recreation Center featured displays from learners at the Delta and Surface Creek campuses, as well as presentations from graduating seniors. A second VCA Showcase for the North Fork Valley will be held April 21 at the North Fork Campus.
It was the home run on the County Line Nordic ski trail on the Grand Mesa as groups of sixth graders from all Delta County schools, as well as fourth graders from Lincoln Elementary, glided to the finish. Their faces were lit up with exuberant smiles reflecting a new confidence achieved from completing the loop on cross country skis.

Businessman Bob Michael, who has served on the town planning commission as both a member and as chair, won his first four-year term on the Cedaredge Town Board in the April 5 election.
Cedaredge trustee Dayton Myers has won a second four-year term.
Incumbent town trustee Craig Fuller was the high vote getter among the four candidates for Orchard City Town Board, getting 592 votes out of a total 2,056 cast for trustee candidates in the April 5 municipal election, according to unofficial election results.
At the North American Trail Riders Conference, NATRC, Regional Convention held recently in Cripple Creek, four members of the Ladies Saddle Club took home regional awards.
The year-end awards comprise seven different multiple day trail riding events from April through October of 2015.
